My old Hoover die after 18 years. I love the old one so much. I know this vacuum do not have the greatest reviews, but after all is not that bad.I used to clean houses professionally so I know what I like in a easy to use but super powerful cleaner. This vacuum may work for you if you don't have new carpet but if you do you might want to consider a different vacuum. We've had ours for over a year with no problems. I just now ordered replacement filters for the first time. I only washed the filter once. I bought this vacuum based on the reviews and the price. In the first month it lost its 'wind tunnel' feature despite cleaning out the canister after each use. Not as good as the old one we had

Pieces ie: the end of the handle that you attach to the floor attachment is plastic, the part you hang onto to push the vacuum is a much cheAper plastic, the hose is Avery cheap plastic(very awkward to use , due to not being as flexible ), the on/off button is not on the handle.
Also, the floor attachment is now plastic and it's just so light, it just doesn't want to go straight!!!! The two good things...... Great adjustible suction and I love that it uses bags! Yes (2) No (0)  Report Yes (2) No (0) I had a Hoover many years ago and have missed it. Tried a few other brands which were bagless and disapoointing. I decided to go back to Hoover and the bagged variety, sick of the mess of emptyin and cleaning it out every time. This vac has great adjustable suction power. It IS quiet, for a vacuum. Some reviews complained that it does not live up to its quiet force name. It does not claim to be silent. I can hear radio and conversations when it is running.
Quiet enough for me. One feature that really does not work well is the three in one tool. When the brush is pulled out, the crevice tool does not stay in place and works it's way out. I kept my old tools from a previous machine and they fit fine so this is working great for me. I clean vacation homes on the beach and had this one, or the previous 2 years ago. It takes all the sand , because it has no rotating brush, like the uprights. If you have hard floors and short in length carpets in your house, this one is the best. And I tried all kind of vacuum cleaners over 13 years now. I wished I had one in my house with all my doggy hair. Rotating brushes which come with the uprights, don't help with pet hair. Overall: Great Suction on sand, easy to handle, easy to lift up and Hoover is responding here, that I call great Customer Service. I have had this vacuum for about 6 months now and it was great for the first few months but the suction, through the extension rod and into the floor and carpet heads, is very poor.
I have taken the extension rod off and it is clear through and there isn't anything in either head to obstruct air flow. It is becoming very frustrating when I have to go over the floor again with a duster and/or broom to pick up what was missed. I was so very excited in the beginning but getting less and less so as time goes on.Your Quiet Performance should always have powerful suction. I had a few thoughts on what the issue could be and put together this quick video: http://youtu.be/CVti4WjWXcQ with some tips that should help. If you have any more questions, please let us know. Had it for 6 weeks, cleans great!  90% laminated floors and the rest are are area rugs and door mats.  Well the auto cord retract broke/jammed.  Since we are from Canada apparently our town/postal code didn't exist so there was nothing Hoover could do.  So after a few more calls up the corporate ladder we got everything resolved and we will be getting a replacement unit!  So a bit frustrating at first but it all worked out in the end!
