We have been fundraising hard over the last two months to ensure that our summer school for the new year 7 pupil premium students will be able to run this year, after having the funding stopped by the government. We held a “teacher karaoke” during a Friday lunchtime, where students enjoyed watching the staff perform. It was a roaring success and the staff and students alike had a brilliant time. This event raised £173.00 A non-school uniform day was held by the students in March and the proceeds of this went to the summer school campaign.

They raised a brilliant £543.00. A big thank you goes to Oxford gliding club who donated a trial glider flight and Miele in Abingdon who donated a vacuum cleaner as main prizes in the raffle, which was our next big fundraiser. It was primarily a staff one, but we had friends, students, parents and family join in, which raised £360 for the fund. Our Go fund me page has been shared on social media and amongst staff, parents, friends and family. The online donations totalled £160, which was wonderful. We would also like to thank Tesco’s Extra in Abingdon, who allowed us to do bucket shakes at their store on busy Saturday mornings. A small group of students stood holding their buckets on 29th March and raised £244 which was brilliant. The same group of students returned to Tesco’s last weekend to try to raise the final £100 needed to get to our £1600 target. We were amazed and overwhelmed to find that Tesco’s had organised a tombola for our campaign, with prizes such as a laptop, electronic toys and headphones.

Their staff stood with us the whole time we were there and held our buckets. When the students and Larkmead staff left, the Tesco store carried on raising money for us for the remainder of the day. Along with our students, they raised an outstanding £963, which completely smashed our original target! The Tesco staff came to visit our school on Tuesday of this week to present us with a cheque for the money that was raised. Mrs Screen kindly took a photograph capturing the moment. The Oxford Mail are very interested in our fundraising story and are coming into school to photograph the students who have helped, which should be fun and gives them the recognition for their efforts. Our fund now stands at £2463. We have achieved more than we ever thought possible. The extra money means we will likely run the school for an extra day and it will fund a fun, but educational trip for the summer school students. We would like to thank anybody who supported the campaign in any way.
