I am highly allergic and an asthma sufferer, when I vacuum with other brands, I am constantly sneezing and wheezing, but not with a Dyson.I also like the fact the inventor is a physicist and has made numerous devices I would have loved myself.  It should be telling that several other companies tried to steel the cyclone design and have had to lease the design from him. ...Yes, in my experience they are. I've had mine for 6 years and it's still going strong. It's low maintenance and it's got the best dust bin design in the industry when it comes to emptying without a huge mess (most other bagless bins puff dust everywhere when emptied ). I've had more expensive vacuums that didn't work half as good.I agree with the comment about it being a loud vacuum. That was one of the hardest things to get used to, but it's performance is so far and above most other brands, it's a small price to pay. The final note is that I prefer the standard Dyson upright over the ball style vacuums because they're more stable and have a bit better suction.

If you want a quiet vacuum, Miele is certainly the way to go.  Miele is my second pick only because I prefer Dyson's bagless over a bagged vacuum. Bagless vacuums do not hold carpet or pet odors and redistribute them throughout the house each time the vacuum is used, unlike a bagged vacuum does. vacuum cleaner silhouette......For the value and over the lifetime of a vacuum Miele is a much better choice. cheap lightweight vacuum cleaners ukDyson does make the best bagless, but they do hold odors any plastic will even Miele with their charcol filter will start to smell, Dyson's do leak more dust into the air than a good bagged machine like the Miele. powerful vacuum cleaner for carpetEven leading consumer magazines reported the Miele did better at picking up hair and embeded dirt than other brands, is quieter just cost more than most.
