Turn the filter upside down. Tap the filter on the sink edge after you flip it to remove extra dirt. Repeat the cleaning process 10 times. Place the filter upside down on a sunny windowsill for 24 hours. Look for the filter that removes the outside of the canister from the inside. Open the top of the canister, where your first filter was stored. Scrub the interior of the canister under running water. Flip the inside of the canister upside down. Set the interior bin aside. Place the exterior part of the plastic canister in your sink. Wash the inside and outside with cool water. Dyson does not recommend using detergents on this bin. Place these parts aside to dry for 48 hours in a well-ventilated area. Look for traps at the base of your hoses. These are small sections that can be accessed to remove clogs. Flip them back with a small amount of force and remove any waste that has accumulated. Replace the hoses by latching or clicking them back into place.

Small Dyson vacuums may have traps that you can not clean. Wipe down the exterior of the Dyson with disinfecting wipes. Step on the latch to release the upright stand. Look for a small grooved circle. Pull the beater bar out through the end. Cut away string, hair or dust across the inside of the beater bar. Remove the waste with your hands. It sounds like a rather simple improvement, but Dyson is a company that's well known for its extreme testing and prototyping of new products, and the development of the Cinetic technology was no different. Over a six-year period a team of 29 engineers at Dyson spent $12 million and built over 2,000 prototypes to ensure the new filter-free cyclone technology worked as promised. The vacuum's suction capabilities were tested for about 9,000 hours, and Dyson spent just over $200,000 on dust alone to make sure clogging was no longer an issue. It makes you wonder how much profit there is to be had on the dust that collects on your parent's TV in-between visits home. The latest generation of Dyson's vacuums featuring the new Cinetic technology will be first available through QVC starting on January 15, and will arrive at other major retailers a few months later on March 1.
