Help Replacing a Motor on an Old Electrolux Vacuum Cleaner Replacing a defective motor on an old Electrolux brand vacuum cleaner requires a replacement motor that will need to be located from a specialty parts dealer -- or by cannibalizing a working model of the same era as that of the one that needs repair. A few household tools are all that is needed to replace the motor with another one. Unplug the Electrolux vacuum cleaner's power cord from the wall outlet. Slide the floor switch on the bottom side to "Floor" with your foot. Push the handle lever at the back bottom of the Electrolux down with your foot. Upend the vacuum cleaner. Remove the screw from around the wheel on the bottom and the two screws from the front edge of the bottom cover plate with a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the brush cover plate off the bottom by hand. Grip an end of the brush roller assembly that is now visible. Pull the end up and out of the bottom. Set the brush roller assembly aside.

Use a jeweler's Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws from the bottom of the Electrolux. Pull the rubber belt off of the shaft of the motor and the fan assembly at the bottom. Set the fan belt aside. Remove the screws surrounding the motor assembly inside the bottom with the Phillips head screwdriver. Loosen the two screws on the side that have wires wrapped around them. Unwind the wires and remove them from the screws. Pull the motor out of the bottom of the Electrolux vacuum cleaner and discard. Loosen the two screws on the side of the replacement motor. Wind the wires around them in the same manner as they were on the original motor. Mount the replacement motor into position inside the bottom of the Electrolux where the original motor was. Attach the screws from the original motor to secure the replacement motor in place. Place one end of the fan belt around the motor shaft and the other end around the fan assembly. Reverse the disassembly process to put the Electrolux back together.
