Vacuum recall: Hoover WindTunnel a fire hazard Hoover Inc. announced a recall of its Hoover WindTunnel bagless upright vacuums after receiving reports of the machines burning carpets and a consumer's hand, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. The power cord is not installed properly in models with a cord rewind feature and can come loose. The CPSC warns the defect can cause fires and shocks. Hoover told the CPSC that carpets in at least three homes have been burned and one user suffered minor burns to a hand. About 108,000 of the Mexican-made vacuums were sold nationwide between August 2009 and May 2010. They sold for $100-$160. The following model numbers are recalled: UH70110, UH70120, UH70200, UH70205 and UH70210. They have the manufacturing codes: HO9A, IO9A, JO9A and KO9A. If you have a vacuum with the K09A code that has a green dot, it is not subject to recall. The codes can be found on the lower rear section of the vacuums. Stop using these vacuums immediately, according to the CPSC, and contact Hoover to arrange a free replacement of the cord rewind assembly.
