When your Kenmore vacuum begins to leave dirt behind, changing the agitator brush belt can restore the vacuum’s ability to clean your floors. Unplug the power cord on your canister-style Kenmore vacuum cleaner from the wall outlet. Move the telescoping wand attached to the vacuum power head until it becomes perpendicular to the floor. Press the quick-release pedal on top of the power head to the left side of the wand. Pull up on the wand to remove it, leaving the wand tube connected to the power head. Find the handle release and pile-height adjuster along the back of the power head and below the tube that connects to the wand. The handle release sits to the left of the pile height adjuster. Press on the handle release to lower the handle attached to the power head. Turn the power head over to expose its bottom. Look for the two screws next to the power head’s rear wheels. Remove these screws from the vacuum. Turn the power head back to its original position with the wheels on the floor.
Look for the latches on each side of the wand tube. Lift up on the latches to release the back of the power head cover. Grasp the power head cover on both sides of the power head near the rear wheels of the power head. Pull the cover away from the sides of the power head. Lift the cover from the power head as you continue to pull the cover from the sides of the power head to expose the agitator brush. Grab the agitator brush with your hands. Lift the brush from the power head to release the tension on the agitator brush belt. Slide the belt from the left side of the brush. Pull the belt from the motor shaft near the rear of the power head. Slide the replacement agitator brush belt over the end of the brush. Make sure the belt rests in the belt path at the end of the brush. Slip the belt over the motor shaft. Line up the ends of the agitator brush with the slots on each side of the power head. Push down on the ends of the brush until they rest firmly in the power head. Replace the power head cover over the top of the power head.
Push down on the tabs along the rear of the power head to secure the rear of the cover. Replace the power head screws you previously removed. Turn the power head back over so the wheels rest on the floor. Raise the tube at the back of the power head until it locks in an upright position. Slide the telescoping wand over the tube on the power head. Push on the wand until you hear it snap over the tube. Unplug the power cord on your upright-style Kenmore vacuum cleaner from the wall outlet. Raise the handle on the vacuum until it locks in the upright position. Move the pile-height selector lever on top of the vacuum head to “Low.” Turn the vacuum over to expose the base of the vacuum head. Look for the long roller directly behind the agitator brush. Find the two tabs directly behind the long roller. Use your fingers to push the tabs toward the center of the vacuum. Look for a locking tab to the left side of the vacuum head directly in front of the left rear wheel. Push in on this locking tab. Look for a locking tab on the rear of the vacuum head to the right side of the right rear wheel.
