We let it run every day, and it always picks up a good bit of hair and dirt. This machine is more of a sweeper than a vacuum, but that works well for picking up hair on our wood floors and low carpets. When we first got it we let it run while we were home, and that allowed us to identify areas where Roomba got stuck or had difficulties. To help it out, we straightened up some wires under the bed and we closed some doors before leaving it to run.

We use the virtual wall to keep it out of our dining room so it doesn't have to deal with a forest of chair legs. We typically arrive home to clean floors and Roomba charging on its dock. It is aggravating to watch. It staggers around like a drunk and it seems to clean the same spot repeatedly while missing other areas. My first I lost in a divorce, the second was used and not great, and now this one. I tried a different brand on a similar item and had to return it to Amazon after it started throwing sparks. I have had no issues like that with the actual Roomba brand. This model is way nicer than the original I had. It automatically senses stairs, so it won't go tumbling. It collects a ton of dog and cat hair every time I run it, even if I can't see the hair on the carpet. It finds it way back to the dock and docks itself when cleaning on the floor in my home the dock is.

However we have it set to run automatically at 10 AM each day and after about 3 weeks of use we are well pleased. The first couple of days it did not doc itself but after that it docks itself probably 90% of the time. We do need to empty the container after it runs for about every 30 min. It has only got hung up and switched itself off 1 time while vacuuming under the bed it got tilted after running off something stored under the bed. Maria goes and goes and when she tires, she rests. She gets usually 80-90% of stuff you see and a ton more of what you don't. If you have pets, this is a necessary took to help with pet hair.

Only had to relocate Maria a few times in the dozens of runs she has made. I have hardwood throughout most my house and laminate in the bedrooms. The few rugs we have also get handled by Maria except for one taller therapeutic rug that she just can't quite climb. All in all I am stoked for this purchase and 40 bucks for 4 years of a warrenty is worth the peace of mind. It will not go onto our burgundy area rug that has black areas on it. It must think it is a drop off. I am not thrilled about paying this much and then having to vacuum that rug with my traditional vacuum. We've only had it about three weeks but use it bi-weekly and have been amazed by the amount of dirt it picks up. Not sure about longevity of the product yet but as far as accomplishing the task it gets an A+. But I love this little robot cleaner. I let my carpet go for a week so I could really rate it. It picked up all the crumbs and bits on the floor and the bin was full of lint. I think I'll keep her! I have a Kirby for that, but it keeps the floors looking nice (kitchen floors too).
