slimline cordless vacuum cleaner

If you've ever bought a Dyson product--or even looked at one--you know that they tend to run pretty expensive. In the case of the Dyson DC35 Digital Slim, you're looking at $299 for a cordless vacuum. That's a lot of dough, but the Slim, which is shaped more like a cleaning weapon than an appliance, has a dash of Dyson's usual innovative, fancy-sounding technology. It sustains suction level (even when the bin is filled up) with something called Root Cyclone technology, and it comes with a "fade-free" lithium ion battery that you just won't find in most other cordless vacs. Overall, this is a really good cordless vac--maybe the best--but aside from the price, it does a have a few shortcomings. Check out our video review above to find out what they are. And if you've got a DC35 (or another Dyson vac), let us know what you think of it, good or bad. 8 used & new from Sold by Hyper Tech (NO TAX Anywhere) and Fulfilled by Amazon. Vax Air Cordless Switch 2 in1 Bagless Vacuum Morphy Richards Supervac 2-in-1 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner.I recently had a week-long experience with the Dyson DC59 Motorhead vacuum while pet sitting for a friend who was out of town. If you want a light-weight, cordless, vacuum that is quick and easy to use, then the DC59 is perfect for you.
Having promised to do some cleaning for her while she was away, I was a bit disappointed that she didn’t have a regular vacuum like my Dyson DC65 Animal Complete. Instead, I found a small cordless vacuum hanging from its charging station. Having never used a machine like this before, I was a bit hesitant, assuming it wouldn’t be powerful enough to clean a whole room covered in pet hair like my DC65 can. Having no other options, as I was miles from home, I decided to try it anyway – and ended up blown away by its performance. After using it the first time, I had to look this powerful little machine up online to see what exactly I had just used, and ended up writing this review as a result. It turned out to be the Dyson DC59 Motorhead cordless vacuum cleaner, which packs some pretty unique features. I knew this vacuum had to provide some significantly different features from most cordless vacuums, since the performance was so much better than most full sized plug-in vacuum cleaners.
In fact, after my thorough research, I found out that Dyson have tested it against the Shark Rotator Lift Away Professional, Bissell Cleanview One Pass, Hoover Windtunnel Air and Eureka Airspeed finding it to out-clean these top 4 best-selling full-size, upright, vacuums across carpets and hard floors. The Motorhead cleaning technology is interesting. It contains a separate direct-drive motor that enables it to be 75% more powerful than the DC59 Animal which only comes with the Mini motorized tool. As you can see to the right, the only thing that makes a DC59 digital slim cordless vacuum a Motorhead and not an Animal is the larger cleaning head. Even with a self-contained direct drive motor, the DC59 Motorhead still has all the suction power of the top mounted, 350 Watt, V6 digital motor with 2 Tier Radial cyclones as well. This is because the drive shaft runs through the body of the digital slim vac and operates the brush bar motor without the use of belts (which I’ve always found to be the first thing to break).
As a result of this belt-less design and V-Ball technology, the bottom of the machine is entirely composed of the full width, edge-to-edge cleaning head. This makes it much easier to work into tight spaces such as under beds, chairs or other furniture. The nylon bristles and carbon fiber filaments powered by the direct-drive motor drive deeper into the carpet pile removing a lot more dust and dirt over a greater surface area than other models such as the DC35 and DC44. It’s also easier to push around as the weight, 4.9 lbs, is more evenly distributed on this hand-held vacuum and positioned towards the handle grip instead of the base making it easier to maneuver. Since my first time using this vacuum was during a pet sitting session at my friend’s home, there was a heavy mixture of dog and cat hair that had worked its way into the fibers of the carpet. I cringed before trying this vacuum, being used to having a terribly difficult time trying to remove pet hair from fabric fibers before with my old Hoover T-series WindTunnel.
I was blown away when this vacuum lifted the pet hair and dander with the same ease as my DC65 Animal Complete, especially being a cordless model. The suction power is top-notch (as you would expect from the 110,000 RPM Power Output of the V6 motor and 2 Tier Radial cyclones), and I had plenty of time with the 24 minutes of battery life from the re-engineered Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery to clean the whole house. The new battery is designed to transmit 1.5 times more fade-free power than DC35 and DC44. When you hit a dense area of fur or dirt, there’s a boost button on the top of the handle, which pumps up the power output from 28 Airwatts to 100 Airwatts (at the cost of battery life). I played around with this button a little, but never really had to use it unless an area was extremely saturated. I got a little carried away over the next few days, and decided to try vacuuming pet hair off of the couch and chairs. One thing I noticed is, since the motor isn’t at the base of the machine, it’s really easy to tilt the cleaning head up and onto a chair surface.
Although if you prefer you can attach the mini motorized cleaning tool directly to the handle for ease of use on stairs, foot-wells or beneath car seats. The DC59 picked up pet hair from the fabric, and to my surprise, also managed to suck it out of the cracks between cushions (something I wasn’t even trying to accomplish). I also tried the handheld attachment hose. The battery lasts for slightly less time with this attached, but it isn’t significant enough to gripe about. It was easy enough to brush pet hair from the base of curtains and the sides of furniture, so it does come in handy when you need handheld use. All of this functionality aside, at the end of the day, this is still a battery powered vacuum. I was able to clean the carpets and rugs of a 2,000 sq foot house with no issue, but if your home is vastly larger than this, you might face issues if you can’t complete your cleaning within 24 minutes of operation. I wouldn’t personally view this as a huge drawback, because I noticed that the docking station charges the vacuum relatively fast (around 3 hours), and I wouldn’t mind taking a break from cleaning if I’ve been at it long enough to run the battery down.
Still, it’s something to keep in mind if you are dead set on being able to vacuum a large home in a single go. When the 0.12 gallons dirt bin fills up, it’s easy to see since the panel is transparent. One thing I liked is being able to dump the bin just by pressing the button. It’s just so much quicker and more hygienic. I’ve had other vacuums where I had to actually remove the bin, or even shake it out in the trash can to get all of the dirt to fall out. Being able to empty the bin in a few seconds and get back to cleaning is really nice. Also, when you stop to empty the bin (or move to another area), the motor kicks off as you release the trigger. This run-time enhancing trigger was a thoughtful touch that helps save battery life when you’re not actually cleaning. The DC59 Motorhead cordless is more expensive than other similar vacuums with a retail price of $549.00. It comes within lifetime HEPA filters and cleans right to the edge of the carpet or hard flooring with superior sucking power (almost as powerful as an upright when boosted to 100 Airwatts).
