Replace a cut or out of shape belt.Supermarket giant Tesco has launched a new in-store electrical recycling service, offering Clubcard points and giftcards in exchange for unwanted gadgets.Shoppers can swap their old small and medium-sized electrical appliances – including flatscreen TVs, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, laptops and sat navs – under the scheme.Tesco says that shoppers will be able to get their old electricals valued instantly. The value of each item will be calculated by an online database which holds details of more than 3000 products, based on what Tesco describes as their 'current market value'.Shoppers will be able to turn up and get a giftcard or Clubcard points for small electrical items including digital cameras, MP3 players, kettles, toasters, games consoles, tablets, irons, toasters and kettles.Large appliances like washing machines, cookers and dishwashers aren't included in the scheme.
Tesco says all electricals will be recycled in some way, either by being refurbished or broken down for parts.A sat nav in good working order could be valued at £50, a 32 inch flatscreen TV could be worth £160 and a Canon EOS camera could be exchanged for a £190 giftcard. Tesco has not released prices for older gadgets, which will be worth less.shopping expert Matt Clear says: 'Any initiative that encourages people to recycle old electrical goods should be welcomed, but don't necessarily accept the Clubcard points or giftcard value you are offered from Tesco without having a clear idea of what you gadget is worth first.'Before trading your goods in, we advise you to have a quick look on eBay, Amazon or in your local newspaper to see how much you could earn by selling your old gadgets yourself. It could be that your old sat nav or digital camera is worth more than you think, and more than Tesco is offering in Clubcard points.'The service is available at 238 Tesco Extra and Tesco Homeplus stores.
