A swimming pool crawler, also called a suction side cleaner, is a pool vacuum that automatically moves along the floor of a pool. They can be used in both in-ground and above-ground pools. Automatic pool vacuums allow you more time to enjoy your pool instead of having to clean it manually so often. Setting up a pool crawler is the most complicated part of their operation. Once it is connected to the skimmer port in your pool, the swimming pool crawler pretty much runs itself. Empty the pump basket. Backwash and rinse out the pump filter until it is clear. Test the pH balance of your pool water. Different pool crawlers can work in different pool water chemical levels, so compare your test results to the pool crawler's instructions to ensure that it won't be damaged by the pH level and the amounts of chlorine, cyanuric acid and calcium that are present in your pool water.

Close all of the pool's main drain and suction outlets, except for the one that the skimmer hose line attaches to. Turn off the pool pump. Remove the skimmer port basket. Screw the provided threaded compression adapter onto the vacuum connector at the bottom of your skimmer port. Insert the automatic regulator valve into the threaded end of the compression adapter. Attach the crawler's hose to the first section of skimmer hose. Slip the hose float on to the hose, 8 inches away from the connector where it attaches to your pump hose. Submerge the crawler hose that is now attached to the skimmer hose. Submerge the next section of the skimmer hose and then insert the male connector of the hose into the female connector of the already attached hose section and twist them to lock them together. Continue adding crawler hose sections in this manner. Lower the crawler to the pool floor and wait for the hose to fill with water so that it no longer has any air in it to allow it to float. Thread the skimmer hose end through the skimmer opening in the wall of your pool.
