We don't know the specifics yet, but TVs certainly will play a big role in retailers' Black Friday plans. Sam's Club, for instance, plans to offer specials on 4K UHD smart TVs from Samsung and Vizio.As always, remember that quantities will likely be limited, and there will be no rain checks once supplies run out. If you're itching to start shopping before Thanksgiving, consider these pre-Black Friday sales scheduled for November 21 to 25. A 55-inch Samsung UN55JU640DAFXZA UHD smart TV, $778, plus a $30 Sam's Club gift card. This model, a derivative for warehouse clubs, is currently selling for about $1,000 at BJ's. A 58-inch Samsung UN58H5202AFXZA 1080p smart TV with two HDMI inputs, $548. It's selling for about $840 at Best Buy. A 40-inch Samsung UN40H5201AFXZA 1080p smart TV with two HDMI inputs, $298. It's selling for close to $380 at several retailers, including Sears. The advertised specials also include a Samsung HW-HM45 2.1-channel sound bar speaker system for $140, the Samsung BD-JM57C smart Blu-ray player for $48, and the Samsung WAM1500 Omni Wi-Fi speaker for $95.

Not so with the Neato XV Signature Pro, a powerful robot vacuum that cleans your floors for hundreds of dollars less than the competition. Priced at $449, the Signature Pro isn't cheap, but compared with the $800 Roomba 880 it's a relative bargain, and it picked up everything we threw at it. It's very easy to use and its laser guided mapping system is superb, even if it isn't exactly quiet, and you'll have to keep the brushes free of tangles and build-up, especially if you have pets.

Despite those two minor concerns, the XV Signature Pro is good enough to earn our first Editors' Choice award for robotic cleaners. Design and FeaturesThe XV Signature Pro uses the same design as the XV-21 Pet & Allergy Automatic Vacuum Cleaner, only this time Neato did away with the garish purple, orange, and gray finish and settled on a more restrained black and gray design. The Signature Pro is big; it measures 3.7 by 12.7 by 12.5 inches (HWD) and weighs 8.2 pounds, but it is still portable enough to move from room to room using the built-in handle on the top of the chassis. Also up top is a removable dirt bin and filter assembly that holds three-quarters of a quart of debris, a 1.7-by-1.7-inch LCD panel, four programming buttons, a large Start button, and the Laser-guided Vision System. The Signature Pro uses laser guidance to map out a floor plan for the most efficient cleaning route based on furniture placement, walls, doorways, etc. When you first hit the Start button, it will undock and scan the room for several seconds before beginning its routine.

It does this each time you start a cleaning session and will go from room to room as long as it has a clear path. It typically starts cleaning the perimeter of the room, and, working in straight lines, moves on to the interior section. Unlike the puck-shaped Roomba, the Signature Pro has a straight front-end bumper that steers it away from furniture and other objects. Only the back is curved, allowing it to maneuver out of tight spaces. The curved edge contains an exhaust vent and two metal strips that are used to charge the vacuum when it docks with the base. The charging base has a matching finish and measures 5 by 13 by 2.2 inches (HWD). It also has two metal charging strips that pair with the vacuum's strips, a release button for the back panel, and a hard-wired AC power cord. A curved LED indicator that wraps halfway around the Start button shows you the vacuum's status at a glance. A solid green light means it is fully charged and ready to go, while a pulsing green means it is charging, but can be pressed into action.

A pulsing amber light means the vacuum is being charged and is not ready for cleaning, and a solid amber light indicates an error, which could mean the dirt bin is full, the bumper is stuck, the brush is jammed, or the drop sensors need cleaning. Whatever the cause, it will be displayed on the LCD screen. The bottom of the vacuum contains left and right drop sensors, which prevent it from falling down stairs, plus a 9.2-inch brush/blade combo roller, two main drive wheels, two smaller stabilizer wheels, and two battery compartments that house rechargeable nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. The Signature Pro needs around two or three hours to become fully charged, and if it runs out of juice in the middle of a cleaning session it will return to its base, dock itself, recharge, and resume cleaning where it left off. Included in the box are the vacuum, a spare blade roller (the brush roller is pre-installed), a spare filter, and a quick start guide. You also get an 80-inch long boundary marker, which is a one-inch wide magnetic strip that prevents the Signature Pro from entering marked off areas.
