I saturated the rug with Lysol and vinegar, scrubbed it down, then used this vac to suck up all of the liquid. This vac did an amazing job!!! Not only did it do a great job on the wet carpet, but it dry vacuumed the carpet in my other bedroom just as efficiently!!! I'm going to use it on my car next!!! There was only one con to the laundry list of pros: Liquid started blowing out of the exhaust port as the tank filled. Once the tank reaches approximately 1/2 to 2/3 full then you'll want to empty it to avoid this issue. The price and the amazing suction offered by this product makes it well worth a 5 star review!!! And make sure you buy it here. It's more expensive on other websites and chances are it's not offered at your local Walmart (check first). I don't recommend anything smaller because the filter takes up most of the canister space. The only down side to this unit is that the canister is made of thin stainless steel and might be prone to dents. I would have preferred hard plastic.
