I have not had time to vacuum daily, and I have multiple cats with long fur. The machine picks up the hair wonderfully and performs better than expected. The only problem I have is that the large area rug in my day room has black borders and one third of the pattern has a solid black background. I had noticed that Roomba ran along the length of the room repeatedly, and did not go onto this rug.

I started picking it up and setting it on the rug and found that the problem is that it will not cross the black borders nor will it vacuum where the design pattern is woven in solid black. Once on the carpet, it will not leave the rug, as it would have to cross the black border--it goes into paralysis if I set it in the middle of the black design. The book says it may not perform well on dark colors: The pattern in the rug is woven in dark green, dark brown, and burgundy red (there is quite a bit of beige too) and except for the area of black, it works faithfully. Since the area of black is only a strip down the middle, I am able to easily vacuum this strip, and it is not a problem, but if anyone has a entire black carpet, it probably will not work for you.
