50% off Pace Trial Razor Pack terms of service and privacy policyThe days of watching your Roomba vacuum spend more time scaring your cat than sucking up dirt have long passed. While we’re still not at the point of owning a fully automated robo-butler that can cut the crusts off our PB&J sandwiches, this week’s Consumer Electronics Show made a strong case for a future in which practical home robotics can make our everyday lives more comfortable, convenient and safer. Looking to compete with iRobot’s popular Roomba and Scooba dirt-destroying devices, a number of new contenders have entered the auto-cleaning ring. At the top of the list, Samsung and LG both showcased impressive robotic vacuums that push the technology and make our homes all the cleaner in the process. If the name of Samsung’s entry, the POWERbot VR9000, doesn’t sell you on its ability to demolish any dirt that dares to cross its path, perhaps its performance will do the trick. Boasting 60 times more suction than its closest competitors, the no-nonsense cleaner sports an extra-wide brush and remote control.

With Dual Eye 2.0 sensors, LG’s robotic vacuum, called the Hom-Bot Square, aims to be more intelligent than its peers. These sensors allow it to remember which floors need to be vacuumed the most, making it smarter with each use. Its unconventional square design lets it reach spots its circular competitors can’t. With your vacuuming chores taken care of, you can spend more time caring for your plants. Or, you can simply assign the impressive Parrot Pot to scratch that task off your to-do list. The smart pot not only waters your plants for you via a built-in, automated irrigation system, but it keeps tabs on their fertilizer levels and sunlight exposure, as well. An intuitive, intel-packed app lets plant owners with a smart phone or tablet monitor their green friends from anywhere and meet their watering needs with a simple tap. While the pot pretty much does all the work, the companion app lets you to take as much or as little part in the plant’s growth and nurturing as you please.
